Physical Science is an introductory, inquiry-oriented course that stresses the scientific process, critical thinking, and fundamental concepts of physics and chemistry. With a hands-on philosophy, the course emphasizes the development of observation, experimentation and analytical skills applicable to successive laboratory courses in the upper school. The students will cover the basic components of physics and chemistry and acquire an understanding of topics such as atomic theory, chemical bonding, phases of matter and solutions, types of reactions, kinetics, dynamics, energy, and momentum. Lab assignments will include the ‘egg-drop’ contest, the ‘chip challenge’ mail in, and rocketry to name a few. The students will learn how to work both independently and as a member of a team.
